A little history

Holywood is one of the oldest Christian settlements in Ireland — founded by St Laissren in the 6th century. The maypole on the High Street is the only remaining maypole in Northern Ireland. Rory McIlroy, the world champion golfer, is from Holywood.

Local tip

The seafront walk along Belfast Lough is excellent. The Maypole High Street. The Culloden Hotel for afternoon tea with Lough views. The marina area for food.
