A little history

Holt was almost entirely rebuilt after a catastrophic fire in 1708, giving the town a remarkably consistent Georgian character. The North Norfolk Railway — the Poppy Line — runs between Holt and Sheringham. Gresham's School, founded in 1555, has educated W.H. Auden, Benjamin Britten and James Dyson.

Local tip

The Poppy Line steam train to Sheringham is one of Norfolk's great rides. The Holt Country Park for walking. The town for exceptional independent food and shopping.
