A little history

Godalming lit its streets by electricity in 1881 — the first town in the world to do so. The Godalming Navigation — part of the Wey Navigation — is one of England's oldest canal systems, dating from 1653. Charterhouse School, one of Britain's great public schools, moved here from London in 1872.

The Godalming Navigation for the most beautiful towpath walking in Surrey. The High Street for excellent independent shops. The Pepperpot (the old Town Hall) for the town's history. The Wey for kayaking.
