A little history

Glossop grew as a cotton mill town in the 19th century under the Duke of Norfolk's patronage. The old market cross survives from the medieval settlement. The Snake Pass connects the town to Sheffield. Bleaklow and Kinder Scout — England's wildest moorland — rise immediately above.

Local tip

The Dark Peak is genuinely accessible from Glossop — Bleaklow is one of the finest wild walks in England. The Snake Pass drive is extraordinary. Old Glossop village for the historic character.
