A little history

Glastonbury Abbey was one of the most important monasteries in medieval England — and the claimed burial place of King Arthur and Guinevere. The Tor has been a place of pilgrimage since Celtic times. The Glastonbury Festival, begun on Michael Eavis's farm in 1970, has grown into the world's most celebrated outdoor music event.

Local tip

The Tor at dawn or sunset is genuinely magical — the climb is easy and the views extraordinary. The Abbey ruins are atmospheric. The High Street for the extraordinary mix of crystal shops and genuine old market town. The Festival tickets sell out immediately.
