About Forfar

Known for

Forfar bridie (the distinctive Angus meat pastry), the Loch of Forfar, Restenneth Priory, and the county town of Angus with strong agricultural and food heritage

A little history

Forfar has been the county town of Angus since medieval times. The Forfar bridie — a distinctive horseshoe-shaped pastry filled with meat and onion — has been made here since the 19th century and is one of Scotland's most recognisable regional foods. Restenneth Priory nearby is one of Scotland's earliest Christian sites.

Local tip

A proper Forfar bridie from a local butcher is genuinely excellent — don't confuse with Cornish pasties. The Loch of Forfar for birdwatching. Restenneth Priory for early Christian history. The town market for local Angus produce.
