Fordingbridge's seven-arch medieval bridge over the Avon is one of Hampshire's finest. Augustus John, the celebrated Bohemian artist, lived here for the last 30 years of his life. The town sits at the northern edge of the New Forest.

Local tip

The medieval bridge at dawn is beautiful. The New Forest is literally on the doorstep — excellent walking and cycling. The Tuesday market for local produce.
