About Folkestone

Known for

The Creative Quarter (one of England's most celebrated arts-led regeneration projects), the Channel Tunnel terminal nearby, the Leas Clifftop promenade, Roger Dickens's Folkestone Triennial, and a Kent port town undergoing extraordinary cultural renaissance

A little history

Folkestone was a major Victorian resort and cross-Channel ferry port. The port declined when the Channel Tunnel opened in 1994. The town's regeneration, led by Roger Dickens and the Creative Foundation, has transformed the Old High Street into one of England's most vibrant arts and food destinations.

Local tip

The Old High Street Creative Quarter is genuinely extraordinary — independent galleries, studios, cafes and restaurants in a perfectly preserved Victorian street. The Leas Clifftop walk for Channel views. The Folkestone Triennial art installations across the town.
