A little history

Fishguard was the site of the Last Invasion of Britain in February 1797 — a French force of 1,400 men landed at nearby Carreg Wastad Point but surrendered within days, partly after the legend that local Welsh women in traditional costume were mistaken for soldiers. A tapestry commemorating the invasion (like the Bayeux Tapestry) is displayed in the town.

The Last Invasion Tapestry at the town hall is genuinely fascinating — the detail is extraordinary. The ferry to Rosslare for the Ireland crossing. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path from Fishguard is stunning. Lower Town harbour for the traditional fishing village atmosphere.
