About Falmouth

Known for

The world's third deepest natural harbour, the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Pendennis Castle, the Tall Ships events, and a Cornwall port with one of Britain's most vibrant arts and food scenes

A little history

Falmouth's natural harbour is the world's third deepest — after Sydney and Halifax. Pendennis Castle, built by Henry VIII, guards the harbour entrance. The town has a thriving arts scene centred on Falmouth University, and the V&A has called Falmouth one of Britain's most creative small towns.

Local tip

The National Maritime Museum Cornwall is free and world-class — the tidal zone is extraordinary. Pendennis Castle for harbour views. The Events Square and Discovery Quay for the food scene. Gyllyngvase Beach for the town beach.
