A little history

Ellesmere Port grew as the terminus of the Shropshire Union Canal — the canal boats unloaded here for transhipment to larger vessels on the Mersey. The National Waterways Museum (formerly the Boat Museum) preserves the extraordinary canal heritage. Stanlow oil refinery dominates the skyline.
