A little history

Eckington's Church of St Peter and St Paul contains some of the finest Norman carvings in Derbyshire — the tympanum above the south door is extraordinary. The village grew as a coal mining community in the 19th century but retains its medieval heart around the church.

Local tip

The church carvings are genuinely superb and entirely overlooked. The Rother Valley cycling and walking. Chesterfield is nearby for shopping and the Crooked Spire.
