A little history

Dungiven Priory, an Augustinian house founded in the 12th century, contains the O'Cahan tomb — considered the finest medieval carved tomb in Ulster. The O'Cahans were the lords of this area for centuries. The town is at the heart of the Sperrin Mountains AONB.

Local tip

Dungiven Priory and the O'Cahan tomb are extraordinary and free — genuinely undervisited medieval heritage. The Sperrins walking from Dungiven is excellent. The Glenshane Pass for a dramatic drive.
