Known for

The V&A Dundee (Scotland's first design museum), the RRS Discovery (Scott's Antarctic ship), Desperate Dan and the Beano (DC Thomson comics), the jute heritage, and Scotland's most dramatically transformed city

A little history

Dundee grew as a jute manufacturing centre — at its peak producing most of the world's jute sacking. DC Thomson published the Beano and Dandy comics here, creating Desperate Dan and Dennis the Menace. The RRS Discovery — Scott's ship for the Antarctic expedition — was built here in 1901. The V&A opened in 2018, transforming the waterfront.
