Robert Burns's last home (he died here in 1796), the Devorgilla Bridge (medieval), the Globe Inn (Burns's favourite pub, still serving), Caerlaverock Castle, and the Queen of the South — the capital of Dumfries and Galloway

Robert Burns spent the last years of his life in Dumfries from 1791 — writing some of his greatest songs including Auld Lang Syne here. He is buried in St Michael's Churchyard. The Globe Inn, where Burns had his own chair and wrote on the windows, is one of Scotland's most authentic literary pubs.

The Globe Inn is genuinely extraordinary — Burns's favourite howff, virtually unchanged. Robert Burns's house is a museum. The Devorgilla Bridge for medieval history. Caerlaverock Castle (moated, triangular plan) is 15 minutes away and extraordinary.
