A little history

Dudley Castle, built in the 12th century, was one of the most important fortresses in the medieval Midlands. The Black Country Living Museum on the site of a former canal arm preserves the extraordinary industrial heritage of the Black Country — reconstructed shops, pub, fairground and working canal boats.

Local tip

The Black Country Living Museum is genuinely world-class — one of Britain's best open-air museums. Dudley Zoo in the castle grounds is good for families. The caverns beneath the castle are extraordinary. The town centre market.
