A little history

Doune Castle — built in the late 14th century by the Duke of Albany — is remarkably intact and has appeared in more films and TV series than almost any other Scottish castle. Monty Python and the Holy Grail was filmed here extensively. Outlander and Game of Thrones have used it regularly.

Local tip

Doune Castle is genuinely fun — the Monty Python audio guide narrated by Terry Jones is hilarious. The Braes of Doune wind farm is visible from the castle. The Allan Water for fishing. Douchfour Estate walks.
