Royal Dornoch Golf Club — founded in 1877 — is consistently ranked among the world's top five golf courses. The Cathedral, founded in 1224, was the site of Scotland's last execution for witchcraft in 1727. The town is a rare example of a complete small Scottish burgh little changed since the 18th century.

Local tip

Royal Dornoch is one of the world's great golf experiences — book months in advance. The Cathedral is free and beautiful. The beaches north of Dornoch are spectacular and empty. Embo is a lovely small village nearby.
