A little history

Doncaster Racecourse has hosted the St Leger — the world's oldest Classic horse race — since 1776. The Roman fort of Danum sat here. The city grew as a railway engineering centre. The Great Northern Hotel, designed by William Butterfield, is a remarkable Victorian railway hotel.
