A little history

Dartmouth Castle was one of the first castles purpose-built for artillery. The Britannia Royal Naval College has trained naval officers since 1905 including King Charles III. The town is only accessible by narrow roads or water, preserving its exceptional character.

Local tip

The Higher Ferry for the best Naval College view. The castle is excellent. The Dartmouth Food Festival in October is outstanding. Arrive by steam train from Paignton.
