About Dalbeattie

Known for

The Hardrock mountain biking trail (one of the 7stanes trail centres), the Solway Firth coast, the granite quarrying heritage (Dalbeattie granite built the Bank of England), and a Dumfriesshire market town of surprising sporting significance

A little history

Dalbeattie granite — an exceptionally hard stone — was quarried extensively in the 19th century. The Bank of England, Liverpool Docks and the Mersey Docks were all built from Dalbeattie stone. The town is now famous for the Hardrock mountain biking trail — part of the 7stanes network, one of Scotland's great cycling routes.

Local tip

The Hardrock mountain biking trail is one of the 7stanes — excellent for all abilities. The Solway Firth coast nearby at Rockcliffe and Kippford is beautiful. The town centre for local Galloway produce.
