A little history

Cwmbran was Wales's first new town, designated in 1949 to provide employment and housing for the mining valleys communities. The town was built with a distinctive town centre shopping precinct. Llantarnam Abbey, a Cistercian foundation later used as a convent, is a significant heritage building.

Local tip

Greenmeadow Community Farm is excellent for families. Llantarnam Abbey grounds for walking. The town centre has been significantly improved with the Cwmbran Shopping Centre. Cwmbran Stadium for athletics events.
