A little history

Crickhowell made international headlines in 2016 when its independent businesses staged a 'Crickhowell Challenge' — the entire town tried to avoid paying tax by registering offshore, to highlight the unfairness of large corporations using tax avoidance schemes. The town had already won the Observer's award for best high street in Wales for its independent shops.

Local tip

The high street is genuinely extraordinary — every shop is independent. Walk Table Mountain (the flat-topped hill above the town) for stunning Usk Valley views. The Brecon Beacons are on the doorstep. The Dragon community pub.
