A little history

Crewe didn't exist before the railways — it was created from scratch in 1843 when the Grand Junction Railway moved its works here. The railway created the town, planned it, built the workers' housing, and ran everything. Rolls-Royce established their car manufacturing plant here in 1946 — every Rolls-Royce and Bentley is made in Crewe.

Local tip

The Crewe Heritage Centre for the extraordinary railway story — you can see working locos. The Lyceum Theatre for excellent touring productions. The railway junction itself — more trains pass through Crewe than almost anywhere in Britain.
