A little history

Crawley was designated a new town in 1947 to house London overspill. Gatwick Airport's growth transformed it into one of the South East's busiest commercial centres. The town retains its original neighbourhood villages — Worth, Ifield, Three Bridges — within its expanded footprint.

Local tip

The Hawth Theatre has excellent productions. Tilgate Park for woodland walking and the nature centre. Worth Church — a Saxon church preserved within the new town — is a remarkable survival. The historic High Street in the old town village.
