About Colne

Known for

The Colne Blues Festival (one of England's finest), the Pendle Hill backdrop, the Nelson and Colne area's textile heritage, and a small East Lancashire town with a surprisingly big cultural reputation

A little history

Colne grew as a weaving town in the Lancashire textile industry. The town's Blues Festival — held annually since 1975 — has attracted major American artists and is considered one of the finest in Europe. Pendle Hill, associated with the 1612 witch trials, dominates the skyline.

Local tip

The Blues Festival in August is exceptional — book early. Pendle Hill is a short drive and worth the climb. The town centre market for local Lancashire produce. The Colne area for authentic East Lancashire character.
