A little history

Clitheroe Castle — its Norman keep dating from the 12th century — is the smallest Norman keep in England. The town sits at the heart of the Ribble Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The market has been a fixture since the medieval period. The town has developed a remarkably strong independent food culture.

Local tip

The castle and museum are excellent and inexpensive. The Ribble Valley walking — Pendle Hill and the Forest of Bowland are within reach. The town's independent food shops, delis and restaurants are genuinely excellent. The market on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
