A little history

Clapham Common became a popular resort for Londoners in the 17th century. The Clapham Sect — the evangelical Christian social reformers who campaigned to abolish slavery — met here in the early 19th century. The neighbourhood transformed in the 1980s into one of London's most sought-after young professional areas.

Local tip

Clapham Common at sunset is beautiful. The Old Town for the best independent cafes and restaurants. The Windmill pub on the common is excellent. The Pavement for evening food and drink. Omnibus Theatre for fringe theatre.
