A little history

Clacton grew as a Victorian seaside resort with the railway. The Clacton Spear — the oldest wooden hunting spear ever found, at 400,000 years old — was discovered nearby, giving the Clactonian culture its name. The airshow, held annually since 1981, is one of England's largest free airshows.

Local tip

The Clacton Airshow in August is genuinely spectacular and free. The pier for the traditional seaside experience. The beach is good — the sand is excellent. The town centre market for local produce.
