A little history

Castlewellan Forest Park contains the National Arboretum — established in 1740 and one of the finest in Ireland. The Peace Maze within the park, opened in 2001 and designed as a symbol of reconciliation, is the world's longest permanent hedge maze. The Mournes are minutes away.

Local tip

The Peace Maze is genuinely impressive — and genuinely tricky to solve. The arboretum is beautiful year-round but spectacular in autumn. The Mourne Wall walk starts nearby. The town square market on Fridays.
