A little history

Cannock grew as a coal mining town on the South Staffordshire coalfield. The mining heritage runs deep in the town's identity. Cannock Chase — the AONB on the town's doorstep — was a royal hunting forest and remains one of the most accessible wild landscapes in the Midlands.

Local tip

Cannock Chase is genuinely excellent — the mountain biking trails are among the best in the Midlands, the walking is superb, and the fallow deer herds are extraordinary. Go Ape for the aerial adventure. The Chase is minutes from the town centre.
