About Callander

Known for

The gateway to the Trossachs (the Highlands in miniature), Rob Roy MacGregor's country, the Falls of Leny, the Bracklinn Falls, and a Stirlingshire town at the start of the Rob Roy Way

A little history

Callander sits at the gateway to the Trossachs — the dramatic Highland landscape that Walter Scott immortalised in The Lady of the Lake and Rob Roy. Rob Roy MacGregor, the legendary Highland outlaw, was born in the Trossachs and is buried at Balquhidder, a short drive away. The town was developed as a planned town in the 18th century.

Local tip

The Falls of Leny are magnificent in spate — a short walk from town. Bracklinn Falls above the town are even more dramatic. Rob Roy's grave at Balquhidder is worth the drive. The Trossachs Trundler bus for car-free exploration.
