A little history

Edward I built Caernarfon Castle from 1283 as the centrepiece of his conquest of Wales. Prince Charles was invested as Prince of Wales here in 1969. The town is one of the strongest Welsh-speaking communities in Wales.

Local tip

The castle is magnificent — go at opening time before the coaches. The town walls are walkable and free. Y Maes for Welsh language community life.
