About Brixham

Known for

The working fishing harbour (Devon's most important), the fish market, the replica of the Golden Hind (Francis Drake's ship), William of Orange's landing site (1688), and a Devon fishing town of extraordinary character

A little history

Brixham is Devon's most important fishing port — the trawler design invented here in the 19th century revolutionised fishing worldwide. William of Orange landed at Brixham in 1688, beginning the Glorious Revolution that changed British history. Francis Drake's Golden Hind replica sits in the harbour.

Local tip

The fish market is genuinely extraordinary — some of the freshest fish in England is sold here from 6am. The harbour for fish and chips. Berry Head for the coastal walks and lighthouse. The Golden Hind replica for the children.
