A little history

Bolton's cotton spinning heritage is fundamental to the story of the Industrial Revolution. Samuel Crompton invented the spinning mule here in 1779. Hall i' th' Wood (pronounced 'th' Wood') is where the spinning jenny was invented. Rivington Pike was built for Bolton's mill owners.

Hall i' th' Wood is one of the UK's great industrial heritage sites. Rivington Pike walk from the reservoir — spectacular views. The market is one of Greater Manchester's best.
