About Bognor Regis

Known for

Butlin's holiday camp, the Regis title (granted after King George V convalesced here), the beach, the International Birdman Rally, and a West Sussex seaside resort of traditional English holiday character

A little history

Bognor received 'Regis' after King George V convalesced here in 1929. Billy Butlin opened his holiday camp in 1960. The International Birdman competition — human-powered flight attempts from the pier — is one of Britain's most eccentric annual events.

Local tip

The Birdman competition in August is genuinely entertaining. The beach is good. Butlin's for the full traditional British holiday experience. Felpham village for William Blake's cottage.
