The gateway to the Holy Island (Lindisfarne) crossing, the Blue Bell Hotel, the Northumberland Coastal Path, and a small Northumberland town on the Great North Road

A little history

Belford was an important stopping point on the old Great North Road (now the A1). The village is the last settlement before the Holy Island causeway — the crossing point to Lindisfarne.

Local tip

Belford is the best base for Holy Island — closer than Bamburgh and more characterful. The Blue Bell Hotel is good. The Northumberland Coast from here is extraordinary.
