About Beauly

Known for

Beauly Priory ruins (13th century Valliscaulian monastery), the Beauly River (exceptional salmon fishing), the Highland setting, and a small Inverness-shire town of genuine medieval character

A little history

Beauly Priory was founded in 1230 by a French order — one of only three Valliscaulian monasteries in Scotland. The name Beauly comes from the French 'beau lieu' (beautiful place) — an accurate description. The town is a gateway to the Black Isle and the Northern Highlands.

Local tip

The Priory ruins are atmospheric and free. The Beauly River for salmon fishing — one of the finest beats in Scotland. The Square for local food and produce.
