A little history

Batley grew as a shoddy and mungo cloth town — recycled wool fabrics that made it famous across the world. The Batley Variety Club opened in 1967 and hosted every major act from Louis Armstrong to the Rolling Stones before its closure.

Local tip

The town centre market is good. The Heavy Woollen District heritage trail. The Bulldogs rugby ground on Bradford Road for authentic rugby league.
