A little history

Frank Whittle's team moved to Barnoldswick in 1943 to develop the jet engine away from bombing threats. Rolls-Royce established manufacturing here that continued for decades. The town — locally called 'Barlick' — still has aerospace manufacturing in its DNA.

Local tip

The Rolls-Royce jet engine connection is genuinely underplayed — Barlick gave the world jet travel. The town centre market. The Leeds-Liverpool Canal runs through the area.
