A little history

Ballater grew as a Victorian spa town when the railway brought Queen Victoria to Deeside. The town's shops have supplied Balmoral for generations and display Royal Warrants with pride. The original station was rebuilt after fire and now houses a visitor centre.

Local tip

Walk up Craig Coillich for views over the Dee valley. The Royal Warrant shops are genuine — the butcher, baker and fishmonger all supply the royal household. The Dee for wild swimming in summer.
