A little history

A royal burgh since 1205, Ayr is best known as the region of Robert Burns, Scotland's national poet, born in nearby Alloway in 1759. The town has a magnificent racecourse and a long beach.

Local tip

The Burns Cottage and Alloway are a short drive. The racecourse for the Scottish Grand National atmosphere. Sandgate and High Street for independent food. Prestwick beach is better than Ayr's.
