About Aylesbury

Known for

The county town of Buckinghamshire, the Aylesbury duck (a breed developed here), the Roald Dahl connection (he lived nearby at Great Missenden), the Vale of Aylesbury, and a market town that's grown significantly

A little history

Aylesbury has been the county town of Buckinghamshire since the 16th century. The Aylesbury duck — a large white domestic breed — was developed here and exported worldwide. Roald Dahl lived at Great Missenden nearby for decades, and the Roald Dahl Museum is a short drive.

Local tip

The Roald Dahl Museum at Great Missenden is excellent. The Vale of Aylesbury walking. The market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The King's Head pub (National Trust) in the market square.
