A little history

Auchterarder was the site of the famous 'Disruption' of 1843 — the theological dispute that split the Church of Scotland. The town's main street stretches over a mile. Gleneagles Hotel, built in 1924, has hosted G8 summits and Ryder Cups.

Local tip

Gleneagles is worth visiting even if you're not staying — the spa day packages are excellent. The town's main street has good independent shops. The Perthshire countryside for walking.
