A little history

Arundel Castle has dominated the Arun valley since the Norman Conquest. The seat of the Dukes of Norfolk — England's premier Catholic dukes — the castle was largely rebuilt in Gothic Revival style in the 19th century. The town's two great landmarks — castle and cathedral — face each other across the valley.

Local tip

The castle is magnificent — book in advance. The Arundel Wetland Centre is excellent for birdwatching. The antique shops on the High Street. Walk up to the castle for the Arun valley views.
