Known for

A little history

Arran has been called 'Scotland in miniature' — the Highland Boundary Fault runs through the island, giving it Highland mountains in the north and lowland farming in the south. The island has been inhabited since the Neolithic era — stone circles and ancient remains are everywhere.

Local tip

Goat Fell for the definitive Arran view — Ailsa Craig, Kintyre, the Clyde all visible on a clear day. The Arran Distillery at Lochranza is excellent. Brodick Castle gardens in spring are extraordinary.
