A little history

Old Amersham's market street has barely changed since the 17th century — a remarkable survival of Georgian and Tudor buildings. The town's proximity to London via the Metropolitan Line made New Amersham a commuter settlement while the old town remained preserved below the hill.

Local tip

Old Amersham is genuinely beautiful — the High Street has excellent independent shops and cafes. The Chilterns walking from the town. The Crown Hotel for a proper pub lunch.
