Known for

A little history

Alva was a centre of tartan and woollen cloth weaving in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Ochil Hills behind the village provide extraordinary walking. The Mill Trail heritage route connects Alva to the other Hillfoots villages.

Local tip

Alva Glen for the waterfall walk — spectacular after rain and rarely crowded. The Ochil Hills from the top of Glen Road give outstanding views across the Forth valley. The Mill Trail for textile heritage.
