A little history

Alford grew as the market centre for the Howe of Alford farming community. The Grampian Transport Museum preserves the extraordinary road transport history of the North East. Craigievar Castle, a few miles south, is one of Scotland's most iconic buildings.

Local tip

The Grampian Transport Museum is genuinely excellent and undervisited. Craigievar Castle is extraordinary — the pink tower house that inspired Disney. The Don Valley walks are beautiful.
