A little history

Alexandria was the centre of the Vale of Leven's calico printing industry — one of the most important textile areas in Scotland. The Argyll Motor Works, built here in 1906, was the first purpose-built car factory in Britain before the company collapsed in 1914.

Local tip

Loch Lomond is minutes away — the south loch shore at Balloch is excellent. The Vale of Leven heritage trail. Dumbarton Castle for extraordinary Clyde views.
